District Pinewood Derby March 10, 2012

From the Old Dominion District Representative:

 

The District Pinewood Derby is once again set for the Springfield Mall on 10 March – doors open at 8:00 and registration will run until 9:00 am with racing and judging to start at 1000 and trophies to follow at 12:00 if all goes according to plan.

 

There are four tracks so racing will proceed with great pace assited by a great crew of folks lined up (we will let you help too if you ask) to help expedite registration and get those cars inspected before the big race.

 

We have a special edition, one of a kind (other than the 324 that are just like them) neckerchief slide for the first 325 entrants and we have 25 bolo ties that look pretty much the same for the adult volunteers (if you ask, we will let you help).

 

Trophies for top three speed and show finishers in each age group as well as Show trophies top three in the district as well as five additional categories for judging in show:   Best Racecar Design, Best Military Design, Best Scout Spirit Design, Most Innovative Design, Most Humorous Design. 

 

We will race the top speed finishers in each age group and we will have a special medallion for the top three speed cars in the district.

 

Registrations are due in the mail by 3 March

 

Snow Tubing Tomorrow, January 30 at Ski Liberty

A Pack event will be held on January 30 for all cubs, parents and siblings to attend Pack 686 Snow Tubing event at Ski Liberty Resort from noon to 2 pm.  The event is occurring on a Monday (school is out) and provides a great opportunity to have the family get together for some outdoor snow time.  The cost is $20 per person but you need to contact Amy Sprague, as soon as possible to get your name on the list.  Transportation is on your own so car-pooling is a great option.

Pinewood Derby 2012 Results

NO ONE can challenge Pack 686's steadfast commitment to run Pinewood Derby 2012.  Nor rain, nor snow, nor Fairfax County closing their facilities could deter Pack members from assembling at Westwood Baptist Church at 9 AM Saturday morning for a full schedule of racing!

 This year’s racing was run by the Bear Dens and supervised by Mr. and Mrs. Harsha.  It was smashing success and we raised enough money through food contributions to donate over $100 to Westwood Baptist as a generous thank you for using their facilities.  

 As the Cubmaster I want to express my gratitude to all who volunteered and assisted in making this event so successful.  Without you, the pack cannot run and the generous gift of your time is so sincerely appreciated.  Thank you.

Blue and Gold Dinner - February 25

This family event will be held February 26 from 5:30 to 8 pm at Sydenstricker Methodist Church.   Click here for the Church location.

Our Theme is "Building a Scouting Tradition" so where doe s that l ead u s to you may ask?  Well our interactive event will be the "Lego Man"!  There will be an opportunity to build your own Lego project of 90 peices.  Sibblings can participate for a $3.50 fee.  

This pot luck event will be centered on each den creating their own center peice for the table using the theme.
